Great Surfing Beaches
Boca Barranca, Tivives and
Valor, Escondida, Jaco, Hermosa, Esterillos, Bejuco, Boca Damas and the
beaches that surround Puerto Caldera.
Jaco Beach
is where the Ticos (locals/Costa Ricans) hang out. There are many tours
available there as well as beaches, shops, and nightlife.
Playa Hermosa:
The Playa Hermosa area is full of less explored beaches; Esterillos, Oeste,
Bejuco, and Palma.
Damas Island:
A small island divided into two sections from an earthquake. You can take
a canoe through the Damas island canals.
Port of Puntarenas
(Puntarenas is the largest city in this region) has long dark sand beaches
which allows artisan fishing, windsurfing, and boogie boarding.
Caldera is a popular point
of call for several international cruiselines.
Montezuma:
Across the
gulf from Puntarenas on the southern-most tip (Nicoya Peninsula) is Montezuma
Village. Here you will find some gourmet restaurants and beautiful beaches,
and a Vineyard.
By Ferry:
You can take
the Paquera Ferry across the Nicoya Gulf. You will dock in Paquera which
is about an hour from Montezuma.
Grande de
Tarcoles river - Crocodiles
If you head
south from Puntarenas on the coastal road, you can see some nice views.
You will encounter the Grande de Tarcoles river. If you stop and look down
into the water you can often see crocodiles basking in the sun.
If you want
to explore the crocodiles further you can enter the village of Tarcoles,
enjoy a pontoon boat ride on a jungle crocodile safari up the Grande de
Tarcoles river.

there are a couple nature trails where you can have a chance to spot some
of the areas wildlife including: 750 varieties of plants, white-tailed
deer, margaycats, two toed sloths, kinkajou, ocelot, and spider monkeys.
Manuel Antonio
National Park - animal estuary.
This is the
most popular park in Costa Rica. Thereare many animals, dense jungle growth,
evergreen forest hills, sandy coves, excellent outlooks over the sandy
white beaches, and mountain views all in one spot.
La Catarata:
La Catarata is a small tourist area where you can go horseback riding.
