Limón Province
Limon Province is located in the Caribbean region of Costa Rica and encompases the Caribbean shoreline (132 Miles of coast), north to Nicaragua (92 miles from the City of Limon), south to the Talamanca Mountain range which merges with the coast, and as far inland as the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Limon covers an area of approx 9,188 square kilometers and has a population of about 170,000. 

Limón Province consists of thick tropical jungles, coconut trees, ornamental plants, beaches, small towns and villages, and banana plantations.  A top spot for scientific and ecological tourism. There are many beautiful places along the caribbean side of Costa Rica.

The Capital of Limon Province is the City of Limón (aka Puerto Limon)

Things To Do: In addition to listing all the area attractions, here are things you can do in the Caribbean Region. Sun-Bathing, Fishing, bird watching, horsebackriding, and lots of water activities including: white-water rafting, ocean and river kayaking, surfing, diving, snorkeling and canoeing.  The Talamanca region offers hiking and camping. 

North of the City of Limon
Moin: The port of Moin is about 12 miles north of Puerto Limon. Moin is approx 80 miles from the Nicaraguan border.

On the Northern end of the Limon Province freshwater lagoons extend to the Tortuguero and the Colorado River.

South of the City of Limon
Cahuita: Cahuita, Cahuita beach and Cahuita National Park. Located on the Caribbean shoreline in the south of Limon Province.  The reefs offer nice views of fish and crustaceans. The National park is located just inland from the beach.

On the Southern end of the Limon Province is the Talamanca Region

Talamanca Region: A mountainous region that offers hiking and camping, and has several Indian Reservations.

Indigenous people:  65-75% of the Indigenous people in Costa Rica live in Talamanca.  Indigenous groups: Bribris, Cabecar and the Guaymies.

East of the City of Limon

The Historic town of Limon is where Christopher Columbus first touched this verdant shore (Utiva Island is where Columbus anchored during his fourth dicovery voyage). It takes about 20 minutes to reach the Island by boat.

North East of the City of Limon
Braulio Carrillo National Park: Located on the western outskirts of Limon Province and extends into Cartago Province and far into Heredia province.

South West of the City of Limon
La Amistad International Park: Located in the southwestern most section of Limon Province. La Amistad International Park extendes into Puntarenas Province.
